As we've come to expect from Birkenstock, Birkenstock's Emmy wedge sandal features a cork footbed with a high arch and deep heel cup. The weight-bearing part of the foot in this style is at the top of the arch, close to the heel of the foot (as in the soft and classic footbed). In most heeled shoes, the ball of the foot bears the body's weight, causing many problems in the body over extended wear.
